Communicable diseases are illnesses caused by microorganisms, such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, or parasites. Communicable diseases are transmitted to humans via an infected contact (human or animal) or object, or via environmental exposure.  The Macoupin County Public Health Department has the responsibility of investigating communicable diseases that are reported to us via phone, fax, or mail.  For a complete list of Reportable Communicable Diseases in Illinois visit Illinois Department of Public Health’s home page at http://www.idph.state.il.us/.

For further information or any questions regarding communicable diseases, please visit Center for Disease Control’s website at http://www.cdc.gov/ or contact the Macoupin County Public Health Department.
