Communicable diseases are illnesses caused by microorganisms, such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, or parasites. Communicable diseases are transmitted to humans via an infected contact (human or animal) or object, or via environmental exposure.  The Macoupin County Public Health Department has the responsibility of investigating communicable diseases that are reported to us via phone, fax, email or mail.
