Child Passenger Safety Basics Workshop
Join our free, virtual Child Passenger Safety Basics Workshop, a one-hour session taught quarterly by MCPHD’s certified car seat technicians. This workshop provides essential knowledge to increase awareness and promote best practices in child passenger safety. The presentation includes discussions and video clips to highlight key points. Car Seat Checks & Events
The Macoupin County Public Health Department hosts quarterly car seat check events, and an annual National Car Seat Safety Week Check event. These free events offer resources and access to certified car seat technicians at various locations within the county. The rotation of locations includes Virden, Carlinville, and Staunton. Additionally, you can schedule a one-on-one check with a technician at any time during business hours. When should I move my child from rear-facing to forward-facing? Every child is unique in their development. While there are specific laws and guidelines to follow, in Illinois, it is legally required for all children under 2 years of age to be rear-facing. However, it is recommended to keep your child rear-facing for as long as possible. Our certified technicians are here to address any concerns and ensure that all children are secure, safe, and happy using the good, better, best method. How do I register my car seat? Registering your car seat is a great way to ensure your child is kept safe if in the event of an accident. There are several ways to register your car seat. During a car seat check, a technician will hand you both a registration card that comes with the car seat and a sticker to put on the back of the car seat. Will I know if there’s a recall on my car seat? Yes! There are several ways you can be informed of a recall. Most car seat manufacturers will notify all registered car seat owners of the recall and cause of recall.
